CLUB HISTORY

Club Motto: We Meet to Eat and Cruise for Food.

The Corvette Club of Marion County was founded in 1984 by Glen Sims, Roxy Sims, and Roger DeConna as a way to meet new people who share the love for the Corvette. The club has remained active and continues to grow by maintaining long time members and welcoming new members. Glen and Roxy are still members and actively involved in the club. The club celebrated its 30 year anniversary in 2014 during our annual July picnic on Lake Kerr at a member's lovely residence. ( 30th Anniversary Pictures )

Our club was honored with an article about our anniversary and club history in the National Corvette Museum' magazine American Sports Car. The article can be found here: History

We have an attractive club logo that we encourage members to wear on club shirts and display on our cars with a static cling. Information on these will be provided to all new members.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP

Club membership is open to anyone who owns a Corvette or has an interest in Corvettes. Members who desire an association with like minded people who have a passion for the car, friendships, activities that revolve around Corvettes, and community charitable support. Our club is a non-profit organization, functioning financially as a self supporting organization. Operating/donating funds are raised through dues and two primary car shows put on by our members. Those monies enable us to run the club, put on shows, and donate to selected charities. The club is incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida and is governed by a member approved set of by-laws.

Membership period is from January through December of the year. Membership registration forms are available on this site for downloading or at our monthly business meeting.

CLUB MEETINGS

The business meeting is held on the first Wednesday of each month. A standard agenda is adhered to during club meetings. Roberts Rules of Standard Business meetings are adhered to. The monthly meeting is valuable for insight into the club business and activity planning. The club board works to manage and coordinate all functions of the club and brings all business requiring a vote to the membership at these meetings. Our Activities Coordinator continuously presents relevant activities that are club supported, posts our calendar, and sends club emails notifying/reminding what's available. This is an opportunity for all members to have a voice in the club's focus and interests.

Why join? Hopefully for one or more of the following:

  • Group association
  • Ability to show off our cars
  • Seeking friendships and car related activities
  • Seeking driving, food, and fun (Cruising, performance driving, Poker runs, Cruise-ins, and great dining companions)
